October 6, 2025 — Students in Ms. Shawna’s Mandarin classes marked the Mid-Autumn Festival with a day of festive celebration and cultural immersion.
Also known as the Moon Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional holidays celebrated in many East Asian communities. Often compared to Thanksgiving, it is a time for family reunion and gratitude, observed on the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar. This year, the holiday fell on Monday, October 6.
To honor the occasion, students took part in hands-on activities that included tasting traditional treats such as mooncakes, pineapple, and pomelo—foods that are commonly enjoyed during the holiday. The celebration offered students an engaging way to connect with the culture and traditions through language and food.
Ms. Shawna emphasized the importance of celebrating the festival each year as a way to deepen cultural understanding and appreciation among her students.
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival — Happy Moon Festival!
