OPA-MS Awarded Bronze for PBIS Implementation!

Congratulations to OPA-Middle School for being recognized at the BRONZE level for the successful implementation of Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems (PBIS). This achievement highlights OPA-MS’s commitment to putting the core features of PBIS into practice with excellence.

As a new school, earning this recognition after just two years is truly impressive and speaks to the dedication of our professors in fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment for all students.

PBIS is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students' behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social-emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and well-being. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable, and safe learning environments where everyone thrives. (pbis.org)

Benefits of PBIS:

  • Students learn and are reinforced for the behaviors that are desired and expected, rather than only learning what they should not do.
  • Positive behavior supports have been found to promote positive learning environments, create trusting and respectful student-teacher relationships, and result in more frequent and long-lasting demonstration of positive, desired behavior by students.
  • In schools where PBIS is being implemented with fidelity, improvements were found in office discipline referrals, suspensions, school safety and climate, academic achievement, and bullying.
