Mrs. Julia Soto, 8th Grade Science and Math Professor, was recently named OPA-Middle School's Professor of the Year!
Among Mrs. Soto's list of student focused accomplishments is the establishment of project-based learning in the science program, incorporation of Civic Learning opportunities for students, and inquiry-based, hands-on lab activities. As a result, OPA's 8th grade CAST (CA Science Test) scores rose to 78% students meeting or exceeding state science standards - the highest in Orange County!
Over the last summer, Mrs. Soto applied for and received a grant for conservation science learning. As a result, she was able to take 80 8th grade students through the "Exploring Conservation Science Program" at the San Diego Safari Park.
Additionally, Mrs. Soto serves as our Subject Area Coordinator for middle school mathematics and science teachers, as well as on the School Safety Focus Group. Her unique talents, professional competencies, and reflective nature make Mrs. Soto stand out as an amazing educator and teacher leader that others can look up to.
Congratulations again Mrs. Soto!
